Lev Manovich Reading

The database reading by Lev Manovich was not very fun to read, as well as being overly complicated.  The impression I got from the style of writing and the sort of attitude Manovich had towards the topic in the beginning was that he was going to make some great point.  It all seemed to be building toward something that would come back full circle and conclude itself logically.  Unfortunately, that never happened, it was actually just a manual describing different types of databases and their differences from one another.  I was happy to have learned why databases are different from narratives and why they are “natural enemies” but it didn’t seem as important as the writing made it sound, if that makes sense.  Again, one of those people who writes in a complex way about something that isn’t really that complicated, and doesn’t need to include things like “After the novel, and subsequently cinema privileged narrative as the key form of cultural expression of the modern age, the computer age introduces its correlate - database.  Keep it simple, your confusing people
